A powerful explosion leveled a two-storey home in the heart of Athens' historic Plaka district on September 25, leaving five people missing and feared dead just steps from the Acropolis, with American tourists believed to be among those trapped beneath the rubble. The blast tore through the residential building on Lysikratous Street at roughly 7:30 a.m. local time, sending rocks, shattered glass, and chunks of masonry flying as far as three blocks in every direction.
