Landmark trials are testing a new legal strategy claiming that Meta, TikTok, Snap and YouTube caused personal injury through addictive products.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has reached a settlement in a huge lawsuit filed by more than two dozen states. The states accuse the tech company of misleading customers about the safety of its products. As part of the settlement, Meta will implement limits on daily usage and "nighttime blocks" for teenagers, improve age assurance measures to prevent children from using the apps, and create additional tools for parents and guardians.
The deal cuts short the trial, which was expected to see CEO Mark Zuckerberg take the stand before a jury in federal court.
