A Justice Department report released on Thursday found that inmates at two state-run women’s prisons routinely had their rights violated. State officials say they have already put reforms in place.
Investigators uncovered a longstanding pattern of sustained staff sexual misconduct, inadequate safeguards, failures in confidential reporting, improper investigative practices, and insufficient accountability measures, the department said.
Corrections officials would also prohibit magazines and newspapers from being sent to inmates. It would be the strictest ban in the country.
