Elba and Tony D'Aiuto were working for the Jersey City Police Department on 9/11, when Elba was handed a baby from one of the ferries arriving from Manhattan. The baby was having difficulty breathing, and after clearing his airway, she handed him to an EMT to take away in an ambulance. 25 years later, they are still searching for that baby.
Her son, Welles Crowther, became known as the "Man in the Red Bandana" and has been honored for his bravery and heroism on September 11, including being posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom this week.
