My reflections on the attacks of 9/11 begin with conveying the shock and trauma of that horrible day. One cannot understand with the distance of today how the attack on 9/11 immediately represented a profound strike to the very fiber of American society, a very shock to the idea of normalcy, and a pervasive administering of a sense of imminent threat. It also strangely bored in how alone we the United States, were as a nation. We moved toward responding as a sovereign country, but it was soon apparent how much of the rest of the world was reacting with the concern that the y world in which they had and still lived should resist the change which was inevitable from this attack.
