Columbia University says federal immigration agents entered a residence hall under the guise of searching for a missing person and then arrested Ellie Aghayeva, a student from Azerbaijan.
The officers had misrepresented who they were and said they were on campus looking for a missing person, school and city officials said.
"Our understanding at this time is that the federal agents made misrepresentations to gain entry to the building to search for a 'missing person,'" Claire Shipman said
Claire Shipman, the university’s acting president, said that the federal officials had misrepresented themselves to gain access.
