The court filings in the saga reveal the financial uncertainty of the project — and possibly the industry — which could become a serious problem when it comes time to remove the hundreds of massive towers now being pounded into the sea floor.
It's been 20 months since a blade broke off the Vineyard Wind offshore wind project, and residents whose beaches were littered with potentially toxic debris still don't have any answers. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says it's still working on its investigation.
'Dumped 3,000 turbine blades'
Vineyard Wind off the coast of Nantucket is the latest project to be given the green light to proceed with construction while its lawsuit against the Trump administration continues. Three other projects were previously granted preliminary injunctions against the government, and one is still awaiting ruling.
The project, known as Vineyard Wind, was already 95 percent complete when the Trump administration ordered construction to stop.
