President Trump will welcome Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to the White House on Thursday. Takaichi, Japan’s first female prime minister who was endorsed by Trump, is known to be a staunch conservative. She worked to dissolve the country’s lower house of Parliament last month to help her Liberal Democratic Party ahead of the Feb. 8 elections. The two leaders also met in Japan last October as part of the president‘s trip to Asia. The bilateral meeting also comes as the Trump administration pressures allies to assist with securing the Strait of Hormuz and the movement of oil amid the ongoing conflict in Iran. Trump will also host Takaichi for a dinner later Thursday.
