President Trump on Thursday signed two executive orders again aimed at restricting birthright citizenship, an apparent attempt to circumvent a recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld the constitutional protection. In late June, the Supreme Court struck down Trump’s Day 1 executive order that sought to end automatic birthright citizenship for nearly all children born on U.S. soil, holding it violated the 14th Amendment. One of the president’s orders expands the definition of who would be ineligible for automatic citizenship, including “alien enemies of the United States, members of foreign terrorist organizations” as well as the children of diplomats and other recognized international organizations.
