A Beijing-based robotics firm claims its humanoid machine sprinted 100 meters in 9.39 seconds at China's World Humanoid Robot Games, shattering Usain Bolt's record while Washington moves to ban Chinese robot imports on national security grounds. The robot, built by a company called X-Humanoid, crossed the finish line on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the opening day of the games in Beijing. Bolt's record of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009, had stood for 17 years. A second X-Humanoid machine cleared 2.88 meters in the standing high jump at the same event, topping Cuban athlete Javier Sotomayor's 1993 mark of 2.45 meters by more than a foot.
