U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz is open and can be used freely. CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said in a video update that American forces have now successfully cleared Iranian sea mines. This comes as Iran continues to insist the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Cooper said U.S. forces have facilitated the safe transit of nearly 1,500 vessels carrying roughly 750 million barrels of crude oil over the last few months. He added that around 50,000 U.S. troops continue to enforce a strict naval blockade on Iranian ports, redirecting at least 75 vessels attempting to breach the restrictions while ensuring the primary maritime corridor remains available for lawful global commerce.
