As Congress returns to Washington, Republicans are increasingly avoiding in-person town halls—and the tough questions from their constituents. With voters facing rising costs, economic uncertainty, and the fallout from Trump’s policies including a trade war with Canada that’s set to hurt America's farmers - the GOP may be learning the hard way that ignoring voters comes with a price. Maine Congresswoman and farmer Chellie Pingree says, “this is a year and a half of bad policy followed by his last term of bad policy” adding, “if you ask people would you pay a little bit more if you knew you were buying from the farmer down the road…people support.”

Troy Jackson, the Democratic nominee for Maine Senate, slammed Vice President JD Vance’s recent comments about a fatal ICE shooting in his state. At a rally, Vance told Democrats to “have a little bit of perspective” and focus on other issues like securing the border. Jackson called the ICE shooting of 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero “murder”.
Reports of immigration arrests at school bus stops in Danbury, Connecticut – which DHS denies – have sparked outrage from local officials to U.S. senators. As a parent, “I would be beyond livid” says Eric Balliet, a former chief at ICE’s Office of Professional Accountability. He also notes that fentanyl seizures are down 40% under Trump despite the fact that stemming the flow of the drug was a primary justification for his immigration agenda in the first place. Meanwhile, deportation operations are “continuing to ramp up” and immigrant families are “being overwhelmed,” says Izzy Ramirez, staff reporter for LA Taco.
"If you are serving our country abroad, I believe that you should have the ability to cast a vote in our elections. The Trump Administration is attempting to take that ability away," Spanberger said on CNN.
