Ben Berkowitz (AXIOS): Murkowski will oppose Blanche, threatening his confirmation

AXIOS (Ben Berkowitz) - Murkowski will oppose Blanche, threatening his confirmation

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Friday she will oppose the confirmation of Todd Blanche as attorney general. Why it matters: With two GOP holdouts — Murkowski and Susan Collins (R-Maine) — Blanche faces an increasingly difficult path to being confirmed. What they're saying: "The country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration. I hope Mr. Blanche is able to achieve that, if confirmed, but I simply do not have confidence that will be the case," Murkowski wrote in a 6 a.m. ET Friday post to X. Zoom out: With Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) still absent, Blanche can only afford to lose two Republican votes, assuming McConnell does not return and all Democrats vote against him, Axios' Hans Nichols reported this week. - Murkowski makes two against already, and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) still has not said how he will vote. This is breaking news. Check back for updates.
