What perspective do some commentators hold regarding the maturity of Gen Z students entering college?
Some commentators argue that college is a significant maturity checkpoint that many 18-year-olds are not yet ready for. These voices suggest that instead of an automatic march onto campus, young adults might benefit from experiencing real-world pressures like work and bills first, or learning to handle discomfort through the "school of hard knocks."

How do some observers suggest that parents should handle students who move back home from college early?
A mental health counselor suggested that families should not treat the move back home as an open-ended reset. Instead, they urged parents to set clear boundaries regarding household responsibilities, work, sleep schedules, and daily routines, rather than providing an unlimited deferral of adult responsibilities.

What reasons have parents and commentators cited for Gen Z freshmen abandoning college campuses just weeks into the fall semester?
Parents and commentators attribute this shift to a "comfort culture," increased levels of anxiety, and habits formed during the COVID-era where students spent significant time in remote learning environments. These factors have made the "college experience," including roommate conflicts, public speaking, and classroom friction, more difficult for students who did not have daily training in these areas during high school.
