What measures did the French government take in response to the violence at high schools?
In response to the violence, the French government called a crisis cabinet meeting and announced that around 400 high schools would be closed or moved to remote learning. These events occur ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, where current polling suggests Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon are the most likely candidates to reach the run-off.

LFI lawmaker Louis Boyard, who was led by presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, attended the initial protest in Créteil and called for it to spread. The party has also been linked to activist groups like the Anti-Fascist Young Guard, which was dissolved by the government in June 2025.
