Why might U.S. businesses revolt against certain AI controls or regulations?
Because many of the best open-weight AI models are produced by Chinese startups, and many U.S. businesses use them to save money and protect themselves from competition, any attempt to control AI systems could lead to bans or restrictions on Chinese models, which could trigger a revolt from U.S. businesses.

What are the arguments against the current AI safety research being conducted by certain organizations?
Critics argue that much of the research lacks substance because it focuses too heavily on the probability of end-of-the-world scenarios. There is also significant skepticism regarding the independence of these organizations, as many employ former employees from frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic, accept free tokens for analysis, and receive funding from organizations focused on existential risk.
