A Tennessee state senator wants to enshrine an annual "9 to 5 Day" honoring Dolly Parton every September 25, a proposal that could reach the legislature as soon as January. State Senator Jessie Seal of New Tazewell, Tennessee, announced plans to introduce legislation in the 2027 session that would designate September 25 as an official Dolly Parton Day across the state. The date is a nod to Parton's 1980 hit "9 to 5", the ninth month, the twenty-fifth day. Seal wants to give the honor the force of state law, not just a one-time proclamation. Parton died August 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in 1946 in Locust Ridge, a small community in the mountains of East Tennessee.
