An Ontario care home allegedly pushed ahead with Canada's assisted-dying program on a devout Christian grandmother despite her family's objections and her own tearful plea that she had "made a mistake." Brigitte Stegemann, 83, died on July 10 by lethal injection under Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying program, known as MAID, at the long-term care facility in Ontario where she had lived for roughly two years. Her granddaughter, Brigitte Kranendonk, who held power of attorney and served as the primary contact for all of Stegemann's medical and personal care decisions, says the family never consented.
