Handwritten notes unearthed from the archives of the company that built Ladera Ranch, California, have added new urgency to families' demands for answers about a cluster of rare cancer cases that has killed at least three young residents. The notes, written on a Department of Conservation permit during the community's construction in the early 2000s, carry a warning that reads like a loose thread someone chose not to pull: "This well is not to be built over without further considerations."
