The social-media trend uses generated or doctored images of someone dressed as the famous children’s character. Some clips reportedly show the character making threatening statements about certain schools or communities. Law-enforcement agencies from Georgia to Virginia issued public warnings as the content spread. Police and school leaders then faced the costly task of deciding whether an AI-made post represented a real danger.
