The National Hurricane Center expanded Tropical Storm Watches and issued a new Storm Surge Watch across the northern Gulf Coast on Monday as Tropical Depression Two, likely the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, crept toward land with the potential for life-threatening flooding. The depression formed Sunday in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and sat roughly 100 miles south of the eastern Florida Panhandle by Monday morning, packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
