Federal agents arrested a 30-year-old Honduran national in California on charges he falsely claimed U.S. citizenship to register to vote, a case the Justice Department says marks the start of a broader crackdown. Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores, a lawful permanent resident living in the San Fernando Valley community of Winnetka, was taken into custody Friday morning and faced an initial appearance that afternoon in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles.
