Jackson police arrested a 51-year-old man on a murder charge in the death of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black mother of four found hanging from a tree in August, a case that drew global attention and sharp political commentary. Jarques Ratliff, a Black Jackson resident with a prior personal connection to Fortune, was taken into custody Friday afternoon after the Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office classified Fortune's death as a homicide late Thursday.
