A bill reintroduced in Congress aims to cut the American workweek from 40 to 32 hours. Supporters say technology has allowed workers to get more done in less time, while critics say many businesses still need employees on the clock. The meeting was the latest high-level conversation between tech firm representatives and faith leaders as the public increasingly questions whether AI is ethical.
"Covered employees would be eligible to receive overtime compensation for any hours worked beyond 32 hours in a standard workweek," the news release about the bill said
About half a dozen states explicitly protect workers from excessive heat. And some others, like Texas, prevent local governments from passing their own laws.
