A federal appeals court refused to dismiss assault charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., ruling that physically striking ICE officers at a Newark detention facility has nothing to do with a congresswoman's legislative duties. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit handed down a 2-1 decision keeping alive two of three federal counts against McIver, who faces charges of assaulting and impeding federal immigration officers during a chaotic May 2025 confrontation at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey.
