Dr. Anthony Fauci privately estimated the COVID-19 fatality rate at a fraction of what he told Congress under oath just weeks later, a discrepancy now laid bare by his own newly publicized diary entries. On Feb. 8, 2020, Fauci wrote in his personal journal that he and former CDC Director Tom Frieden had spoken that morning and agreed the virus was "acting like a bad influenza", with a case fatality rate "more like 0.2-0.3% rather than 2.0%." Thirty-one days later, seated before the House Oversight Committee, Fauci told lawmakers the mortality rate was "about three percent" overall, and at minimum "somewhere around one percent," which he called "10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu."
