SecAF Meink visited McConnell AFB to observe the ongoing fleet transition from the KC-135 Stratotanker to the KC-46A Pegasus. During the visit, Meink reviewed digital engineering sustainment initiatives at the National Institute for Aviation Research and met with Total Force Airmen.
A McConnell Air Force Base Innovation Lab initiative led to the creation of a 3D-printed funnel that improves KC-46A Pegasus engine servicing. The innovation, developed by Tech. Sgt. Brandon Branstetter, reduces oil spillage and saves the Air Force procurement time and money by utilizing durable, fuel-resistant thermoplastic polyurethane.
A B-1B Lancer that arrived at McConnell Air Force Base last September for a massive structural repair headed back to the fleet significantly ahead of schedule, proving that digital engineering can revolutionize legacy aircraft sustainment.
