Youth across Latin America are flocking to “aura farming” events inspired by video games, drawing both government crackdowns and academic praise as the trend spreads through cities from Lima to Buenos Aires. On a recent day in Lima, dozens of young people converged on a beach for what they called an “aura battle”, a gathering where participants dressed in costumes, danced, posed, and performed for the approval of an enthusiastic crowd.
