The U.S. launched the strikes against Iran a day after what officials described as an attempted Iranian ballistic missile attack against American forces.
The White House did not respond to messages about the strikes and whether they were done in coordination with the U.S.
The State Department order to review security at “ALL posts worldwide” follows persistent attacks on U.S. embassies, with almost 300 reported in Iraq alone.
U.S. embassies in Qatar and Bahrain said its personnel are sheltering in place and advised all Americans in the region to do the same after a joint U.S.-Israel attack on Iran.
