Aysha, a six-year-old girl living in one of the most remote corners of Italy, will walk into a classroom on September 10 as the sole enrolled student at what is being called the smallest school in Europe. The school sits in a building owned by the local Catholic parish in Ginostra, a village of roughly 40 residents perched on the western slope of Stromboli, the volcanic island off Sicily's northern coast.
