A 48-year-old transgender American who left California seeking asylum in the Netherlands now says the Dutch refugee camp where she ended up is so dangerous she could be "hurt or killed", and she wants to come home. Jane-Michelle Arc, a software engineer from San Francisco, landed at the Ter Apel asylum center in the Netherlands, a sprawling facility housing roughly 2,000 asylum seekers, where stabbings and violent brawls have grown so frequent that Red Cross volunteers temporarily stopped providing aid.
