Leadership of a U.S. Navy command that overseas undersea warfare from the Western Pacific to the Arabian Sea has changed hands.
The submarines would replace up to eight of the current Ohio-class submarines homeported at the base just west of Seattle on the Puget Sound.
The Navy commissioned the submarine USS Idaho in a traditional ceremony at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn., bringing cutting-edge warfighting capability to the nation's undersea forces after a multiyear construction process.
