Van Dexter, a community health worker and medical student in the United States, grew up in a rural community in the Philippines, where he says he observed health care disparities firsthand. Van Dexter says he advocates for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities to fulfill his responsibility to those who raised him.
