Ironically, given the lack of attention it’s gotten, it could end up being the most important thing he does in his second term over the long haul. After WWII, Europe had been devastated by the war; Britain was no longer considered the world’s most powerful nation; the Soviet Union was a looming threat; and everyone was concerned about preventing another war.
