The Supreme Court on Tuesday morning will weigh the legality of asylum claims from migrants who have not physically crossed the U.S.-Mexico border. President Trump has defended an immigration policy known as "metering," which dates back to the Obama administration and was rescinded under former President Biden. Under the measure, border officials would turn back noncitizens before they could cross into the U.S. Federal law only guarantees migrants who arrive in the U.S. the ability to apply for asylum.
