The governments of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan agreed to a mutual defense pact on Friday, with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif traveling to Mecca for the signing ceremony.  Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that the pact, known as the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, is “intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three states shall be regarded as an attack against them all” (in this last respect, it seems to closely resemble NATO’s Article Five).
