Newly released air traffic control recordings reveal the chilling seconds between a routine takeoff clearance at Chandler Municipal Airport and the moment a fellow pilot radioed the tower to report the plane had gone down, killing the sole person on board. The Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee departed runway 22 right on a Tuesday evening just after 9:30 p.m. local time. Moments later, the aircraft slammed into a commercial yard southwest of the airport in Chandler, Arizona, and the pilot, the only occupant, did not survive.
