Elon Musk’s controversial chatbot, Grok, is notorious for polluting the “cloud” with sexual deepfakes and racist content. But in the Memphis metropolitan area, it’s under fire for literally polluting the air. Grok’s “supercomputer” is located in massive data centers on the Tennessee-Mississippi border, powered by dozens of gas-burning turbines emitting harmful particulate matter linked to asthma, lung cancer and heart attacks. In April, the NAACP sued xAI and its subsidiary MZX Tech, claiming the fleet of turbines violates the Clean Air Act, by taking advantage of a loophole of sorts: Because their turbines are technically on wheels, Mississippi law considers them “portable” and not subject to permitting constraints,…

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie is pushing a sweeping legislative package that would streamline approvals for pipelines, power plants, and transmission lines, a move Republicans say is overdue as electricity demand surges and red tape stalls new projects. Guthrie, a Kentucky Republican, introduced the Permitting Our Way to an Energy Resurgence Act, dubbed the POWER Act, as a discussion draft on Wednesday. The 96-page bill bundles nearly 20 GOP proposals into a single package aimed at overhauling the federal permitting process, strengthening grid reliability, and shielding ratepayers from rising electricity costs driven by data center construction. The bill lands with fewer than two dozen legislative days left…Open

President Donald Trump has issued a sweeping executive memorandum aimed at delivering what his administration calls the largest deregulatory action in American history, taking direct aim at costly environmental rules that have driven up vehicle prices and restricted Americans’ ability to repair their own cars, trucks, and equipment. The order directs the Environmental Protection Agency to expand “freedom to fix” protections by clarifying, within 30 days, what vehicle owners may lawfully do when repairing emissions systems on their own vehicles. It also tells the EPA to consider deprioritizing civil enforcement against Americans who make good-faith efforts to restore vehicles to their original configuration. At the center of the…Open
Normally, the EPA has up to 18 months to decide on state petitions under the Clean Air Act, but after receiving New Hampshire's petitions in December, the agency said it "plans to move much faster" on its review.

The EPA has overturned a formal 2009 scientific finding that greenhouse gas emissions are a threat to human health and welfare, President Trump said Thursday. Why it matters: It's the Trump administration's most direct effort yet to rip out climate regulations root and branch — and make it harder for a successor to impose new ones. - The "endangerment finding" provides the legal underpinning for controlling heat-trapping gases under the Clean Air Act, and reflects scientific agreement that global warming poses major risks. - But EPA's new move will face immediate litigation. Driving the news: EPA is expected to issue a final regulation Thursday that removes the finding for emissions from vehicles. - The rescission came alongside…
