A fishing guide named Adam Fisk hooked a massive black marlin from a kayak off Panama's Pacific coast, fought it for more than six hours, and released what may be an unofficial kayak world record, after the fish dragged him 15 miles out to sea. Fisk, a saltwater kayak fishing specialist who has guided anglers in Panama, Alaska, and Florida, was on a rare day off near the Los Buzos Resort when he dropped a blue runner into the water and connected with something far bigger than his small craft was built to handle. Wild horses have been legally protected by Congress for over half a century. But many of them may be getting sold into slaughter under Trump, according to a New York Times investigation. Ranchers can buy these horses for “pennies on the dollar” and then sell them for “huge margin” into slaughter, says Spectrum News 1 journalist Ryan Thompson. “We don’t believe that the current program upholds enough protections for wild horses to not hit this loophole,” says Patricia Miller of American Wild Horse Conservation.
The Trump administration is reportedly negotiating to swap a piece of Yosemite National Park to a private developer. It’s part of a broader rollback of protections covering more than 86 million acres of public land. Meanwhile, inside Grand Teton National Park, the Park Service is being ordered to approve a paved pathway it once rejected because it found it would harm wildlife. Former Park Service Superintendent Joan Anzelmo warns, “National parks are a birthright to all Americans, and they are treasured by the world– and once they are gone, they are gone.”
