A man in his 30s died early Friday morning in downtown Los Angeles after his car veered off Upper Grand Avenue and fell about 50 feet to the street below, and police still don't know what caused him to leave the road. The single-vehicle crash happened around 2:30 a.m. as the driver headed northbound on Upper Grand Avenue, a stretch of roadway elevated high above Lower Grand Avenue in the heart of downtown LA. The car left the roadway, dropped an estimated 40 to 50 feet, and overturned on the street below, the New York Post reported . Albert Westpfal was paddling over a reef at China Walls, a well-known break on Oahu's South Shore, on Tuesday afternoon when a tiger shark estimated at 12 feet clamped down on the tail of his surfboard. The shark bit clean through the fiberglass, knocked Westpfal off the board, and sent him into the open ocean, then turned and charged him a second time. Westpfal fought back. A 15-year-old boy who had been fishing with his brother and cousin in Alaska was rescued on Monday after their boat capsized the night before. The three boys were on an 18-foot fishing vessel near St. Lawrence Island when their boat overturned, according to a news release from the US Coast Guard.
