A floatplane carrying 11 people crash-landed and caught fire off a remote Washington island, leaving one person in critical condition and reviving safety questions about the same aircraft model involved in a deadly 2022 crash. The de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, operated by Kenmore Air, went down in Shallow Bay off Sucia Island around 5:15 p.m. local time Thursday, roughly 45 minutes after lifting off from Lake Union in Seattle. The plane was bound for Roche Harbor on San Juan Island, a routine hop through the San Juan archipelago, about 90 miles north of Seattle and just four miles from the Canadian border.
