Michael Drapeau, a detective for Spokane County, wrote in an affidavit that the suspect "feels fire is powerful, beautiful, and that things that go through fire experience a kind of rebirth."
A neighbor who witnessed the incident said the man claimed he was with the fire department.

Authorities haven’t said what caused the other two fires burning around Spokane. No deaths have been reported.
