A newborn kitten hitched an unplanned ride inside a vehicle's engine bay across 76 miles of Texas Hill Country, and a team of hospital workers, animal control, and a local rescue group pulled together to save it. A Peterson Health employee drove from Rocksprings, Texas, to Kerrville for a regular shift and had no idea a tiny passenger was tucked inside the engine compartment. When the worker arrived at the hospital and popped the hood, the kitten was still alive, wedged somewhere behind the front grille after roughly an hour and a half of highway driving across open ranchland. The National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Emergencies Friday morning for the Ozona area in Crockett County and for Sonora, where floodwaters threatened portions of Interstate 10.
