A public-records company has launched a free website called "Stud or Dud" that lets singles run background checks on potential dates, a move aimed squarely at the growing epidemic of romance fraud draining Americans of millions. PeopleFinders, a firm with more than two decades in the public-records business, rolled out the platform last week. The site pulls from publicly available records, address histories, bankruptcy filings, and other data points, and packages them with color-coded red and green flags and what the company calls "compatibility readouts."
