A California high school district shut down its undefeated varsity football program mid-season, citing an ongoing and unexplained investigation that has sidelined the head coach and left the team without enough players to take the field. The San Benito High School District announced Monday that Hollister High School's 2026 varsity football season is over, effective immediately, after the district determined it no longer had enough available student-athletes to "safely field a team."
