A heavy-lift helicopter went down while fighting a massive wildfire in central Utah, and dangerous fire conditions kept rescue crews from reaching the two people on board for hours. The Sikorsky S-64, a workhorse aircraft capable of carrying more than 2,000 gallons of water, crashed at approximately 10 a.m. local time on August 7 near Richfield, Utah, while crews fought the Widemouth 2 Fire on Fishlake National Forest. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed two people were aboard. As of that evening, no one had reached the wreckage, and the fate of both crew members remained unknown.
