A wind-driven grass fire west of Fort Worth, Texas, exploded to 50,000 acres overnight with just 5 percent containment, part of a record-setting national wildfire season that has stretched crews from Nevada to Washington State. The Ross Fire ignited Monday afternoon near the town of Palo Pinto, roughly 60 miles west of Fort Worth, and ripped through dry ranchland so fast that local officials had little time to do anything but order people out.
