Taking a functional approach to the structure and mechanics of revolution is equally if not more important. This means recognizing the underlying preconditions for such a violent state of affairs to burst forward. Revolutions, of course, occurred well before Marx, yet we tend to view them through a Marxist lens, be it Marxist or counter-Marxist.
