The storm's center passed within 60 miles of Kaua'i and 30 miles of the small island of Ni'ihau, delivering wind gusts of 92 mph, dumping more than 21 inches of rain in higher elevations, and driving storm surge that ripped apart coastal roadways in the town of Kōloa.
