At a debate Tuesday night, Sen. Darline Graham, R-SC, who is running to hold onto her Senate seat in South Carolina, stumbled when asked whether Taiwan and the South China Sea are national security issues. Graham responded by telling the moderator: “I’m not that informed on national security.” Columnist Eugene Robinson calls the moment “pretty embarrassing" for Graham, who was appointed to the seat following the death of her brother Sen. Lindsey Graham. But, Robinson predicts, foreign policy won’t define the South Carolina senate election.
President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the US has no talks scheduled or planned with Iran as the conflict between the two countries shows no signs of ending. The remarks come as Iranian officials said Iran and Oman are expected to release a joint statement "soon" that will discuss shipping routes on the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier in the week, President Trump threatened to bomb Oman if the country interferes with the US and Iran conflict, including with the Strait.
